District-level legal sensitisation programme held

District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ukhrul under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) and National Legal Services Authority (National Legal Services Authority) organised a legal awareness programme ‘District Level Sensitisation programme’ for the district administration, Police department, other governmental departments and civil bodies at DRDA Hall, Mini Secretariat, Ukhrul on Wednesday.

The programme started with the playing of the NALSA theme song. DLSA secretary, Masana E Panmei spoke on the purpose of organising the sensitisation programme and urged the district administration, Police station, various government departments to extend co-operation to the various government departments to extend co-operation to the various awareness programmes to be conducted by DLSA.

Retainer lawyer, DLSA Ukhrul Ningnim YL who attended as the resource person spoke on the ‘Roles and functions of DLSA’ and stressed on giving free legal services to the people.

Mentioning about Lok Adalat and legal mediations in Manipur, he highlighted the various functions of DLSA such as providing free and competent legal services, organising legal awareness camps, encouraging legal aid, legal advice, legal literacy and other legal service schemes and programmes directed by NALSA through strategic and preventive legal awareness programme in particular within the areas predominantly inhabited by scheduled by scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other weaker sections of society.

The programme was attended by representatives of the district Administration, Police department, other government departments, Tangkhul Civil bodies, para legal volunteers etc.

JMFC, Ukhrul Km Bineshwori Maibam urged departments to extend support and cooperation to achieve maximum outreach to people for providing legal services through awareness.
