Asian Games gold medalist Dingko Singh who tested positive for COVID-19 has tested negative for the novel coronavirus infection.
Confirming the news, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday posted on Twitter that the former boxer has now tested negative for COVID-19.
Biren lauded doctors and staff who took care of the pugilist at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal.
"Happy to hear that Boxing Icon and Asian Games Gold Medalist Dingko Singh is now #COVID19 negative since his return from Delhi. Thank the doctors and staff who took care of him at RIMS," Biren tweeted on Friday.
The 41-year-old pugilist from Manipur, who is battling cancer, tested positive for COVID-19 on May 31 after returning from Delhi. He was flown to Delhi on April 25 for radiation therapy. However, his scheduled radiotherapy was delayed due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
He had returned to his home state by road- a 2,400-km journey, after being diagnosed with jaundice.
Dingko created history by clinching a gold medal in the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok at the age of 16. An Arjuna and Padma Shri awardee, Singh is now a coach of the Sports Authority of India.
