As many as eight Uttar Pradesh policemen were killed in a fierce encounter with criminals in Kanpur, according to reports on Friday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Devendra Mishra was among those killed in a shootout that occurred Thursday midnight.
The incident took place at Dikru village in UP’s Chaubeypur Police Station when the police team was on their way to arrest one Vikas Dubey from his hideout. But the team was ambushed before they could reach the hideout of the dreaded criminal, police said.
Three sub-inspectors and four constables were also among the dead.
The criminal is facing 60 criminal cases in UP court, the reports added.
