Awareness programme on ‘Violence against Women and Role of One Stop Centre’ held

An awareness programme on ‘Violence against Women and Role of One Stop Centre’ was organised by One Stop Centre, Tengnoupal at Moreh town on Friday.

The awareness programme was attended by Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup president Th Ibemhal Leima; Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup general secretary L Tamem Leima; OSC Tengnoupal centre administrator L Rita Devi; OSC counselor I Rashitombi; and OSC case worker Lucy Haokip as dias members.

As a resource person, Rita spoke on the roles and functions of One Stop Centre. She highlighted the activities of OSC on temporary shelter, medical aid, legal aid, psycho-socio counseling and police assistance.

She also spoke on how a victim of domestic violence can be rescued and service to be given to the victims.

She further mentioned the importance of the helpline numbers provided by the government for the women victims.

Rashitombi spoke on the Prevention of Child Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act and alerted every girl child and young women from cyber crimes and other factors. She also said that girls should be more careful in using mobile phones and social media. Any girl victim or woman can contact OSC of the concerned district to get rescue and immediate legal action should be taken against the culprit.

Lucy Haokip highlighted how a victim of domestic violence can be rescued and what assistance to be given to the victims. She also spoke about the victims of the dowry system and other crimes against women.
