Wildlife week begins in Tamenglong
There will be quiz, easy writing and slogan writing competition during the weeklong celebration of wildlife.
Tamenglong Forest Division began its wildlife week celebration at IB Forest Tamenglong under the theme ‘Wildlife, nature and human existence’ on Friday.
Superintendent of Police Railway and special commando Krishna Tombi and range officer, Tousem S Khogendro singh attended as chief guest and president of the function.
Speaking at the occasion, Krishna Tombi urged the participants to spread the message of protecting wildlife and forest.
He said, “Let us not push each other by saying it is not my duty to protect and preserve the forest. It is the duty of everyone, not only forest people or police to protect wildlife and forest.”
In his presidential address, range officer tousem S Khogendro singh said that 80 per cent of the forest is made by wild animals. The damage caused to endanger wildlife cannot be repaired by humans, he added.
He explained how much money is spent on buying oxygen during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nature is giving oxygen free of cost to live, he added.
“Due to lack of oxygen, many lives have been lost during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he added.
Many plants which cannot be planted by humans are growing with the help of birds and animals, he said.
Mentioning that wildfires frequently occur in hill areas, particularly in Tamenglong district, he urged all to inform the forest department or police if they cannot put off the wildfire by themselves and never to start wildfires in the forest, he added.
He informed that during the weeklong celebration of wildlife, there will be quiz competition, easy writing and slogan writing competition. First position holders will be selected to participate in the state level competition, he added.
