Moreh town wears a clean look as several organisations conduct cleanliness drive
The Moreh town cleanliness drive was conducted on the occasion of the 125th Birth Anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat.
Several organisations came together and conducted a cleanliness drive in Moreh town on Wednesday in connection with the 125th Birth Anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat.
The several groups in Moreh included the AMSU Tengnoupal District Committee, Meetei Council Moreh, All Community Development Organisation Moreh (ACODOM), Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup Moreh and the Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup Moreh.
The organisations carried out the cleanliness drive from Ima Kondong Lairembi Haraobung, continued at NH, then passed through Moreh police station road and completed at Moreh Gate No 2. The public were also given awareness to keep the town clean.
As a part of the programme, five Leikai clubs- SDYC, Heinoumakhong leikai, YTT, Khunou Leikai, CWC khongnangthaba Leikai, SWYC Mongyamba Leikai and HERS Turelwangma Leikai also organised the cleanliness drives at their wards. Students, civil body leaders and Meira paibis took part in the programme.
Earlier in February, Thomas Heinrich Schmöckel from Greven in Germany, on a peace walk in India, came to Moreh and cleaned the place around Khujairok river in Tengnoupal district.
Speaking to the Imphal Free Pressin an exclusive interview, Thomas said he had been posting pictures of the place on Facebook to create awareness and consciousness of the environment among the people. Picking up the garbage himself, he showed the locals how to keep the river and the natural surrounding clean.
