Check hike in fertilizer price: AMPFA

IMPHAL | Mar 20

All Manipur Progressive Farmers Association (AMPFA) urged the government to check the unprecedented hike in the price of fertilizers and distribute the fertilizers timely for the farmers.

Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, AMPFA president L Dhono said that most of the farmers in Manipur are poor people and some could not even afford to go very far and buy fertilizers at regular intervals.

He said that farmers have been complaining on this issue when AMPFA went for inspection recently this year in Thoubal, Bishnupur, Imphal East and Imphal West.

The spokesperson also added that the price of fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides etc used to be Rs.300 per kg and have now increased to Rs. 600 per kg and sometimes even to Rs.700-800 per kg.

And some farmers are facing difficulties coping with this fertilizers price rise as they have to come to Imphal just to but these from very far places.

The organisation gave five days time till 25th March for the responsible authority to act upon it and to give response failing which it will take necessary actions.

They also urged the new CM of the state, N. Biren to hear their plea and act accordingly as it is not only the concern of the farmers alone but the economy of the state as a whole.
