Congress workers harassed

Apropos to the allegations made by BJP Nungba Mandal regarding harassment to BJP workers, a victim of kidnapping incident Athoi Pamei has clarified that it was BJP workers along with UG elements who had threatened and beaten up villagers to vote against Congress besides kidnapping a few.

In a statement Pamei said, he was kidnapped by BJP workers supported by UG elements on March 7 along with chief of Thangal village Majabut Pamei and released only after the elections due to the tireless efforts of Assam Rifles.

He further said, when the same kidnappers came back to Thangal village to kidnap more villagers three of them were overpowered by the villagers. Subsequently, AR personnel came and took them away.

More than 15 persons from Khoupum area were kidnapped and tortured for two nights by BJP workers and UG elements, and released only after intervention by security forces, he added.
