ECI to look into BJP meeting inside Kangla

IMPHAL | Feb 16

PRJA has filed a complaint to the Election Commission against the BJP’s decision to hold Prime Minister Narender Modi’s rally in the state inside Kangla fort this month. Consequently the ECI has assured to look into the matter within 48 hours.

According to a release, PRJA has filed a complaint against the state BJP’s move to organise a political convention at the premises of Kangla to be attended by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The release said it is clearly against the election commission’s guidelines stating that “there shall be no appeal to caste or communal feelings for securing votes. Mosques, churches, temples or other places of worship shall not be used as forum for election propaganda.”

It maintained that Kangla is a sacred site for the Manipuris and PRJA will not tolerate any kind of political slugfest inside its premises. BJP’s move to organise a political programme inside Kangla is an insult to every Manipuris, it added.

Kangla is not only the seat of political power but also a holy place for religious worship and ceremonies, it said, adding it is also believed that there are more than 300 sacred places inside the premises. In this regard, complaint was filed today morning to the ECI, it added.
