Khurai women demonstrate
IMPHAL | Feb 16
Women folk of Khurai area took out a torch rally today in protest against the failure of the state government to punish the culprits involved in the ‘Sanjit fake encounter case’ and ‘Tulihal drug case’.
The rally started at around 9 pm today, where all the women folk walked till the house of the deceased, Sanjit, who was allegedly killed in a police firing in 2010.
One of the women who took part in the rally, speaking to the IFP, Laprakpam Nganbi said that the government has swept the 2010 Sanjit case of ‘fake encounter’ under the carpet, which shows that the government is unjust to the common people.
The government should find the culprits as soon as possible and punish whoever are found involved, she added.
She added that Chief Minister, O Ibobi’s nephew, Okram Henry who is an accused in the Tulihal drug case should also be given proper punishment according to the law, and should not be allowed him to contest in the upcoming assembly election.
“If the government remains deaf to their demands then more severe forms of protests are in the offing”, added Nganbi.
