Security forces arrested militants

IMPHAL | Jan 11

Security forces have arrested two alleged active members of People’s Revolutionary Party of Kanleipak (PREPAK) and an alleged active member of People’s United Liberation Front (PULF) during seperate counter insurgency operation conducted on January 6 and 9, said statement issued by the PRO Manipur police.

In the first incident, a team of Imphal East district police commandos arrested two alleged active cadres of People’s Revolutionary Party of Kanleipak (PREPAK) on January 6 from Lamlong Bazar, Imphal East district.

According to the statement the team arrested the cadre of PREPAK identified as Takhellambam Naobi Meitei alias Noabita, 21, son of T Budha Meitei of Jiribam Champa Nagar Ching Leirak.

Following the disclosure of Naobi another alleged active cadre of PREPAK identified as Mutum Tomba Meitei alias Chakha, 27, son of M Maniton Meitei of Jiribam Champa Nagar Maning Leikai was also arrested, it added.

Investigation revealed that both were involved in extortion of money from the general public, private firms and government offices.

While a case has been registered at Porompat police station against them further investigation is going on, the release added.

On January 9 following a tip-off, a combined team of Imphal East district police commando and 6th Assam Rifles conducted a search operation at Kiyamgei area and arrested an alleged active member of People’s United Liberation Front (PULF).

He has been identified as Md Nawas Khan alias Nahamu alias Amir Khan, 23, son of Md Ajimuddin of Kiyamgei Awang Leikai, according to the release.

On his disclosure one 9mm pistol, one magazine and three live rounds were seized from his shop located at Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi.

Investigation revealed that he was involved in extortion of huge amount money from the general public while a case has been registered at Irilbung police station and investigation is going on, the release further said.
