IW police conducts legal awareness

IMPHAL | Jan 10

A one-day legal awareness programme was conducted by Imphal West district police and District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West on the theme “Investigation of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) cases.”

The programme was sponsored by Manipur State Legal Services Authority.

During the programme, retired prosecutor P Ibomcha spoke on introduction to UAPA cases and aspects of failure and success of conviction in UAPA cases.

Manipur East session judge M Manojkumar Singh spoke on common and major mistakes committed by investigative officers (IOs) during investigation and how to rectify them while retired additional superintendant of police Kh Dhanachandra Singh talked about major conviction case, an analysis to guide IOs.

Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 aimed at effective prevention of unlawful activities associations. Its main objective was to make powers available for dealing with activities directed against the integrity and sovereignty of the country.

SDPO of different districts of the state and sub-inspectors as well as all police officers of Imphal West attended the programme. IOs also interacted with the speakers and raised posers for suggestions and advice.
