From nobab to football : Milan Singh joins big league
IMPHAL | September 20: From juggling nobab (citrusy maxima) to training under the legendary Gianluca Zambrotta, Delhi Dynamos Football Club’s new midfield recruit Milan Singh has indeed travelled a long way in his career.
He hails from a remote village in Manipur and dribbles past all odds. He could not even buy a football to play with. And if that was not all, the sight which we was exposed to most during his formative years was exchange of fires between army and insurgents.
Playing any sport was like venturing into unchartered territory during those days in Manipur. However, he chose to take the path and that decision changed his life and the way his career has progressed since has been awe-inspiring.
“I had never thought that I would come so far from where I started. But it was my will and passion to pursue football professionally and see myself playing in bigger leagues that brought me here. It was a journey which was filled with hardships. But I believe that it shaped me into a footballer that I am,” Milan said.
Milan, who joined Delhi Dynamos F C this year on loan from DSK Shivajians was part of club’s pre-season tour to UK and Sweden and feels it would be of immense help to the team in the season.
Adversity brings the best out in a person and such has been the journey of the 25-year-old midfielder from Manipur. His problems could have pegged him down, but he decided to brave past them and cruised towards his dream of making it to big leagues.
“It was a great three weeks in UK and Sweden. The team gelled very well and the players had really got to know each other better. We now have better understandings of each other’s playing style which is very important for the team to do well in the season. Also on a personal level, getting to play with players who have achieved so much and trainings from Gianluca Zambrotta is a great experience,” he said.
