Tribal students’ bodies oppose ATSUM bandh

IMPHAL August 20: Seven students bodies have opposed the bandh imposed by Emboi Serto led All Tribal Students’ Union of Manipur and its proposed indefinite economic blockade by calling the timing of its imposition as ‘inappropriate’ because the government has asked for some time to act on the demands of the tribal students over the issue of implementation of Central Educational Institution Act, 2012 in Manipur University on Wednesday.

The Churachandpur District Students’ Union (CDSU), Thadou Students’ Association (TSA-GHQ), Anal Student Chandel, Maring Student Chandel, Aimol Student Chandel, Tangkhul Katamnou Saklong (TKS) Ukhrul and Zaliagrong Students’ Union Manipur (ZSUM) Tamenglong have stated that they will not support the bandh imposed by Emboi Serto led ATSUM and the proposed indefinite economic blockade.

The seven student bodies said that the 24 hours bandh will only affect the lives of hills people. Meanwhile, the government has asked for some time to consider the demands of the tribal students’ bodies over the implementation of Central Educational Institution (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act, 2012 in the Manipur University.

The students’ bodies have stated that it would be a wise decision for the Emboi Serto led ATSUM to call off any form of agitations as the government needs room to reconsider.

Just bcos Eboi serto takes the call in ATSUM and to oppose watever he do by other tribe is hypocritic. Support if case is genuine and is beneficial for tribal as a whole, though I dont see clean image for opposing Unions. I dont support bans & strike but seems in manipur this is effective tool to counter the govt. I would love all the student leaders to sit a protest n not bans though. I dont know who is who in ATSUM but I often seems to appreciate their call for certain cause. They need support against this bais GoM.
