IMPHAL, May 17: State PHED minister Irengbam Hemochandra today urged the people of the state to conserve local water bodies and encourage rain water harvesting to face the acute shortage of water in the state.
The minister was briefing media persons today while conducting his first inspection tour as PHED minister of several projects undertaken by his department in the state.....

IMPHAL, May 17 (NNN): The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF), the militant outfit based in Zeliangrong areas\ has totally banned the Zeme, Liangmei and Rongmei Naga councils for bringing confusion and damage amongst Zeliangrong tribes.
The ZUF stated that the recent contradictory statement issued by Zeliangrong societies on the tribe(s) issue is of great concern for the Zeliangrong people as these contradictory statements have done great damage to the Zeliangrong community.....

NEW DELHI, May 17 (Vision Communications): The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation has asked the Centre to hold a high level meeting between the leaders of ENPO and the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to “discuss the long-pending issues of the Eastern Nagaland.”
The president Pongom Khiamniungan, general secretary Toshi Wungtung and the Students’ Federation president Hawang Konyak met the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and other Government officials recently in New Delhi and made this demand.....

IMPHAL, May 17: Amidst public concern over the recent spate of numerous crimes on woman in the state, a 16 year old girl was found dead by villagers from Awang Leikinthabi Shantipur foothills this evening at around 7pm.
Police suspect that the girl was abondoned after being raped and murdered.....

IMPHAL, May 17: Speaking at Audio CD release function FREINDS president, Sapamcha Jadumani said the government has failed to take any visible action on the demands for implementation of Inner Line Permit in the state since 2005.
An Audio CD titled ‘Tansinlakle Aeikhoi, Langoi Jal Aeikhoi’ was released at the Keishampat office of the FRIENDS.....

IMPHAL, May 17: SAI, NERC, Imphal has clarified the allegation made against the director, SAI, NERC, Imphal for misconduct over the setting up of a High Altitude Training Centre here in Imphal that it is false.
According to a release of the NERC, Imphal has said that there is no record as far as approval and sanction is concerned for setting up of High Altitude Training Centre at Imphal.....

IMPHAL, May 17: Troops of 1/11 Gorkha Rifles under the aegis of Red Shield Division apprehended two persons suspected to be ex-cadres of HPC (D) from Khomoi village in Churchandpur district today, stated a PIB release.
The two were later identified as Sangzuol, 33, son of Lala of New Saikot and John Lal Kiemlo, 32, son of Hmangthnlien of Khomoi village, the release said.
One 7.62 Chinese pistol and point 22 air gun without license along with five live rounds were recovered from their possession. The apprehended persons along with the recoveries have been handed over to the Imphal West Police Station on the same day, it concluded.

IMPHAL, May 17: The Narcotics Cell of Imphal West Police led by OC Th Shanti seized one kilogram of cocaine from the possession of one person at Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai today at around 11:30 am.
The peddler has been identified as Md Khayamuddin, 36, son of Zahauddin of Thoubal Moijing Awang Leikai. The seized cocaine is valued at Rs. 16000 to 18,000 in Imphal while Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 36,000 outside the state.

IMPHAL, May 17: Three van associations of Moreh have lifted their ban on other vehicles from plying along the Imphal-Moreh highway, a press statement of the All Moreh Van Owners & Drivers Welfare Association.
The decision was taken jointly be the three van associations, the statement added.

IMPHAL, May 17: KSO general headquarter has informed the general public that it does not have any knowledge whatsoever about the joint press statement purportedly issued by KSO and KASU in the local dailies on May 16 regarding fees charged by different educational institutions.
A release of the KSO general headquarter said that it does not have any knowledge whatsoever about the joint press statement purported issued by KSO and KASU in the local daily on May 16 regarding fees charged by different educational institutions including COHSEM, BSEM, CBSC and private coaching centres.
It also said that the objective of the Kangleipak Students Union (KASU) may be appreciated but the KSO does not like its name being dragged into an issue it does not have any knowledge.
Further, denying any meeting with the KASU at any level, KSO demands KASU to clarify with whom it held the meeting.
It has also mention that KSO has its own education policy, that of “ensuing free education” for the students of Manipur. In this respect it had a consultation with DESAM with whom it shared common ideals regarding education, it added.

IMPHAL, May 17: As part of its educational campaign, the Manipur Students Federation conducted an inspection tour of schools and colleges of Ukhrul district.
A statement said the team inspected Kasom Khullen Government High School and also distributed free text books to the students on May 16.
The statement also expressed that the students have been deprieved of schemes undertaken under the Central government including SSA and RAMSA.
The sub division has only two government High schools.
The student body has also urged the concern government to look into the issue.
